Trash & Recycling
The shared dumpster, the bears, and where the county transfer station is.
Chain the Dumpster
There’s a dumpster across the road for household trash. There are bears in the area, so the chain is not decoration.
- Bring your trash out in a bin, not a loose bag
- Put it all the way inside and close the lid
- Chain the lid back down — and give it a tug
A bear will get into anything it can physically open, and a dumpster that’s been opened once tends to get visited again. The short video at the bottom of this page shows what a properly chained lid looks like.
Hubbard County Transfer Station
For loads the dumpster can’t take — and for co-mingled recycling — the county’s southern transfer station handles both. It’s off Henrietta Avenue: heading into Park Rapids, take a left.
Hours and accepted materials change from time to time. Check Hubbard County’s solid waste information before you load up, especially for a big run.
Not Sure Where Something Goes?
Guidance on furniture, appliances, construction debris, and household hazardous waste will be posted here. Until then, please get in touch rather than leaving it beside the dumpster.
