You’ll find us on County Highway 7, right beside Zorbaz on the shore of Little Sand Lake. Dorset — famous for its restaurants and the annual Taste of Dorset festival — is just up the road, and Park Rapids is a short drive away for groceries, shopping, and services.

• Zorbaz — right next door, down the hill on our own shore of Little Sand Lake. Lakeside pizza and Mexican, and close enough to walk.
• Dorset — 5 minutes north. Four restaurants on one short street, the general store, and a Heartland Trail trailside park. The Taste of Dorset festival draws a crowd each August.
• Nevis — 10 minutes east on Highway 34. A small main street with a bakery, a coffee and ice cream shop, and the giant muskie statue on the lakefront.
• The Heartland Trail — pick it up in Dorset, minutes away. A paved 49-mile state trail running from Park Rapids through Dorset, Nevis, and Akeley to Walker and on to Cass Lake — it was Minnesota’s first paved bike trail, laid on an old railroad grade, so it stays flat and easy.
• Park Rapids — 15 minutes west. The full-service town: groceries, hardware, the hospital and clinics, downtown shops, and the movie theater.
• Walker — about 30 minutes east, on the south shore of Leech Lake. Shops along the water and Reeds outfitters.
• Itasca State Park — about 40 minutes northwest. Walk across the headwaters of the Mississippi, then the old-growth pines, the bike trail, and Douglas Lodge.
• Detroit Lakes — about an hour southwest. A bigger lake town with a long public beach, and home to the Thomas Dambo trolls — giant sculptures built from reclaimed wood, hidden around town and out in the woods. Start at Alexa’s Elixir in City Park, where her spell book decodes the clues to the rest; Project 412’s site has the trail map if you’d rather not hunt.
• Bemidji — about an hour north. Paul and Babe on the lakefront, Bemidji State University, the Bemidji Sculpture Walk downtown, big-box shopping — Walmart, Home Depot, and Target — and Sierra for budget outdoor gear.
• Baxter — about an hour and fifteen minutes east, next to Brainerd. Best Buy and a cluster of other big-box stores, if Bemidji doesn’t have what you need.
