Water Shut-Offs
How to turn the water off and back on at your villa.
Knowing where your shut-off is, and how to work it, is the difference between a wet floor and a flooded villa. The short video at the bottom of this page walks through the valves. Watch it once before you need it.
When to Turn the Water Off
- Closing up for the season. The community is closed in winter, and a frozen pipe with water in it will split.
- Leaving for more than a few days. A slow drip or a failed supply hose does far less damage when there’s no pressure behind it.
- A leak or a burst pipe. Shut it off first, then mop up and call for help.
- Plumbing work. Before you or a plumber open up a line.
Turning It Off
Follow the video. Once the valve is closed, open a faucet to check. It should run dry within a few seconds. If it keeps running, the valve isn’t all the way closed.
Turning It Back On
Open the valve slowly, so the pipes fill gently instead of slamming full. Then open the faucets one at a time and let each run until the sputtering stops and the water runs steady. Take a look under the sinks and around the water heater for drips before you settle in.
A valve that’s stuck, leaking, or won’t close all the way? Don’t force it. Get in touch so it can be looked at before it becomes a bigger problem.
